iTs feVer tIme

Quinn had a fever of 102 ALL weekend. I was so panicked... His fever was due to a head cold (yes another one!) but he never had a fever with any of his previous seven colds. I thought we were pros at dealing with a cold but this one was different.

We got instructions from the hospital that he could go on children's COLD Tylenol. Every four hours. So we kept him medicated through out the night Saturday. When he got up Sunday morning he was so dazed and he was shaking. I called the hospital again, this time I had the morning shift nurse, she said "NO don't give him Tylenol Cold and if you HAVE to don't give it to him every 4 hours"

WHAT THE FUCK how can one nurse tell you one thing and another tell you something different. I ask her, "Did we almost poison our baby". She said "no, it's just not recommended and it's too much for his system, but it was only three doses, so he'll be fine"

I ask her how such a difference of opinion could be possible in the same hospital. She says I think the nurse thought you were asking about 'regular tylenol' which is OK.

So I put Quinn in jeopardy because the nurse was not paying attention to what I was ACTUALLY asking her?

My instincts told me that much cold medicine didn't seem right, I should have listened. Never again...

Quinn is fine now and his fever broke. Although now he's having issues with his throat. I'm wondering if it's strep. We'll see the doctor tomorrow.

I can't even explain the sinking, pit of my stomach nausea I feel at the idea of medicating him wrong. If those nurses thought I was a pain this weekend. Wait until I start asking them to put their medical advice in writing! That will make them LISTEN to what they are being asked!
