Poor Baby

This will be long, it was a rough weekend.

I took Quinn to the pediatrician Friday. Something just wasn't right and I didn't want go all weekend having him in pain. I'm glad I did. His ear infection is still there, after three different antibiotics! Now he's on his fourth. I suspect it won't work... they say he'll need tubes in his ears if this doesn't work. I've been told by people that the surgery is like a night and day difference in a baby. I'm sure it is, but it makes me so sad that he's so prone to things like infection and allergies. I really do hope he out grows these things one day. They say the ear infection was caused by all the colds he had. I asked them why the antibiotics don't seem to be working, I wondered if it was do to all the antibiotics that were pumped through him for three days straight at the hospital... they said so many children have used antibiotics that the germs are just harder to kill. If that truly is the case, I'm frightened to see these germs in another twenty years! She assures me that the surgery is not that bad. As far as "surgery" goes this is extremely simple. She says all he'll need is an air tube on his nose and it should be over in ten minutes. Then the tubes will either fall out on their own or they'll take them out later.

To top it all off he also has a stomach Virus, which is another reason we took him on Friday. He refused food for two days straight! He'd eat solids OK but he would not take his bottle or his Juice. We we're so worried about dehydration. I got to talking with a lady at the pediatricians who said her sister's baby had to go to the hospital to be put on an IV because she also refused to eat with the same virus. At first we thought the virus was just a side effects from the antibiotics. He had bad diarrhea for days. Eventually the daycare told us of the bug going around and that a few kids were sick, the major symptoms were diarrhea and refusal to eat. It pissed me off that they didn’t' tell us right away. I think parents should be told right away of a bug going around! We almost pulled him off his antibiotics early because of this!

So the doctor gave us ear drops and told us to put him on round the clock Tylenol and mortin for about 48 hours. Motrin every six hours and Tylenol in between at the three hour mark. Tony and I had been giving him infant Tylenol but he still seemed to be in pain. So it was nice to hear the doctor say "don't use infant drops anymore, they'll do nothing for him now, use children's"

Last night we gave him all his medicine and we forgot a VERY important rule. Do not give him medicine after a bottle! If you do not give him the medicine slowly enough he gags. So he gagged, and up came all the medicine. Then I guess the gag reflex triggered more and up came EVERYTHING he ate. IT was horrible! I've seen him up chuck before but this was different. He couldn't stop, he couldn't breath, his body was convulsing with the force of it and it poured out of his nose. It was the most horrible thing I have ever seen. It took us about half an hour to clear his nose and calm him down. I think it scared the shit out of him. I've never heard him cry so hard, ok yes I have, he cried like he did at the hospital. I never want to hear that cry again. Tony, who recently laughed so hard he blew soda out his nose, said that it burns real bad when it comes out of your nose. So maybe that is also why it took so long to calm him down. When all was said and done he went right back to his happy little self again. So no harm done but we must remember to never give him meds on a full tummy!

He's crawling!!! (sort of)

We've been doing belly time religiously since the doctors said he's too fat and lazy to crawl any time soon... I'm not sure that it's us trying to prove them wrong or him. He's constantly on the move, he wants to crawl so bad he can taste it. He bounces, he wiggles and worms but he FINALLY made it up on both hands and knees with his belly off the ground this week (which is really hard to do, hehe). He hasn't taken that first "crawl" forward yet but he does throw himself forward and land on his face... He'll get there, he has something to prove.

Disturbing

This highschool that they just broke up a plot where four kids were going to shoot 25 people in the cafeteria on the anniversary of columbine is literally two minutes from my house and is the high school Quinn would attend.

This is VERY disturbing, one of the first things Tony and I did when we found out I was pregnant was check out the school systems. The school that your Child attends is one of the most IMPORTANT choices you'll EVER make for a child. Winslow school district came up pretty high. Now I'm reading that that school was a mess and extremely chaotic. So if this is one of the "good" schools, what does that say for our school system?

On the radio this morning I here them speaking of "goth" kids, black trench coats, chains... They said if your child seems to suddenly turn goth it can be a warning sign of problems. I use to laugh at such nonsense because I was considered a "goth" kid in the later years of highschool. Looking back now, they are right, it was a sign of problems... I had no intention of hurting my fellow classmates or myself. But it's was the "state of mind" that I was in. You find others in that same "state of mind" and you feed off each other. Obviously this is kinda normal in high school they call them "clicks" but some clicks turn into culombine. I assume this to be the same set up for Gangs...

To pool or not to pool

Tony and I are seriously considering an above ground pool... But we don't have the money. We have decided to save up for one that's about 5,000.00 which we will be ready for by next summer or the following, so what do we do for this summer?

We found a nice pool at Sam's club, it's obviously cheap but it will hold us over for a few years until we can afford the nicer one.

This is the pool we are considering, Cheap pool

Tony brings up a good point though, how will I get the baby in and out of there safely? We'll need a deck...

Then we'll need two permits, even for the 295.00 cheap one... This could get hairy. But I've been a mermaid since I was a very young girl... My fins are drying up!

Baby Clothes

Well mom did it again. Last night Tony Quinn and I met Chrissy and my mom for dinner. And mom pulled out a VERY large bag full of new baby clothes. Clothes have been tough to keep up on because he grew soooo fast. He seems to be steady now with his weight. He's getting longer rather then wider. Which is good because normally we have to roll up all his pants.

Grandma gets Quinn lots of clothes on Ebay... I'm not sure what she pays for these but it's got to be pulling on her purse strings by now. I think Quinn is set for the entire summer. He has some really really cute outfits in there! I can't wait to take him to the beach in his little swim shorts!

Finger Foods

When I tried to give GQ finger foods a few weeks ago he gagged and threw up all over... The pediatrician said to try crushing the stars (cheerio like things that dissolve in mouth) into a powder and place it on his tongue. It took him one day to figure it out and now he eats them whole and grunts for more. I can't put them in his mouth fast enough, he swallows the star, looks at me, looks at my hands, then looks back up at me and grunts.

He's even trying his HARDEST to pick them up himself. He's got the finger/ thumb grasp figured out but he's still can't figure out how to place them in his mouth. He puts the star to his tongue them pulls his hand out but the star is still stuck to his finger. They are sticky little buggers. So then he gets all upset and either grunts at me or shakes his hand vigorously. But they stay stuck! Very funny to watch.

seven months today!

Happy seven months baby....
