First Word - Geeeeennnnnn?

I think we officially have our first word. And it's Green. He's been saying dada for a long time now and may know what it means but I'm not counting that because I think it's just a fun word for him to say. One of his absolute favorite sounds to make is CaCaaawwwww. I was making the bird sound to him one day being goofy and he tried to repeat it. At first he'd say CaCa but now he's learned to drag out that last Caaaa. I think I can officially take him bird hunting now :)

Green is the fist real word...TV makes it look so simple, a young child clearly and sharply with out any confusion says his or her first word. This is not true, it's a lie! Just like the TV baby who magically starts walking. Now that Quinn is walking I realize it's a process. There is no real "first step" and there is no real "first word". Quinn has been saying "geee" I know that sounds like baby gogo-gaga's but it is a very purposely pronounced "GEEEEEE" which he is concentrating on doing. A few months back we realized he was trying to say "green". I have a color chart book that I flip and pronounce each color. He likes the green so I would say that one with real excitement. I suppose it caught on. But the real kicker was when he wasn't just repeating a word that mommy says with excitement. He actually knew what it meant. Tony took him to Sam's club a few weeks back and while they were shopping Quinn suddenly said with excitement "geeee geee geeeee" Tony turned to see an isle full of green boxes.

So he gets it... or so we thought. Now he calls books "geee" I was a little disheartened until I realized that he originally learned the word green from a color BOOK. I think he keeps bringing me books so I will open them and show him the green. Sadly I lost the color book. But now that I know, I'll go get another one and show him the green.

Two halves makes one

I have decided to combine my two blogs (when I get a chance that is)... When I first had Quinn I felt like two selves. The "new mother" self and the "old free spirited" self. I feel only one self now. The two have magically combined and made one and it's a very nice mix.

Time for Tubes

October 4rth is Chrissy's birthday and the day Quinn gets his tubes. We took him back to the specialist for a hearing test and they said he still had liquid in his ears. I kinda figured that since he keeps trying to itch his ears all the time. They gave us a choice. More meds or tubes. After last years dealings with all his colds and infections we decided on the tubes. The doc said that is usually the best route to go with daycare kids. It's inevitable that he will have another dozen or so viruses this year and that's what causes the ear infections. His little ears won't drain. I'm nervous... not about the procedure but that they have to put him under. I know it's rare but don't some people have issues with anesthesia? I can't help but have that concern even though I know it's the best thing for him.

Wide Load

I keep allowing him to have that extra bottle at night because I think he's about to go through a growth spurt. He's really really hungry... If he falls asleep with out that extra bottle he'll promtly wake up 3 hours later screaming for the bottle.

I've been using this growht spurt excuse for a month now and he's just getting wider... and wider.... and wider..... When he was around five months he got HUGE before he got taller and leaner and that was his last growth spurt so I know it's coming but I confess I'm getting nervous.

I'm having visions of little buddha not that he's that far off.

The formula that he still drinks 24 to 30 ounces a day of is very filling. When he turns to regular milk he should be able to quench his thirst with out adding another meals worth of calories onto his waste line. Tony and I are pushing his sippy cup of water at him more and more now. and as soon as he gets more then two teeth he'll be able to eat more substantial meals.

for now we wait for that growth spurt.

It's that time again

Tis the season for sniffles and coughs. Quinn is in his first cold of the season. That or allergies. I believe he's going to have season allergies, I also believe I have developed them. IT seems to me whenever I open our windows to let the beautiful fall weather in Quinn and I get what feels like minnie colds. I assume that is what allergies feel like. I've been giving him children's Benadryl at night time before bed and it seems to really help. I just hope this does not trigger another round of ear Infections. Last winter every time Quinn had a cold an ear infection followed. The doc said his ear canals where very tiny and they did not drain properly. I hope his ears have matured.

Aunt Chrissy Cooked Kermit !!!!!!!!

Well the party is over... Actually the party was kinda cancelled because of the holiday, every one had their plans set in motion already. But it was actually a good thing because Quinn was just not feeling it. He'd had a really bad night of sleeping last night and a very short nap today.

My family came over and showered him with really cool presents. He got a QUAD.. A real live baby quad! From Grandmom! It has a little button on the handle and it runs when it's pushed. Too freakin neat. I can't wait to take him outside tomorrow.

He also got a cool sit on rocking zebra that over some time became a big hit. Tony got him a baby tri-cycle, his own Superman baby seat, and a baby baseball set. I got a remote controlled view master that shines images on his wall, and a hammer that makes silly sounds when he hits it. Chrissy got him a Crazy monkey with extra long arms that velcro. I'd say he made out pretty well.

What I thought would be the highlight ... the green frog cake... well as you can see I was very wrong. But Chrissy did an amazing job making it and it tastes GREAT!
